On March 20th, 1956, a truce was signed that formally recognized Tunisia’s independence, creating the Kingdom of Tunisia with Habib Bourguiba as its first president.
For this occasion, the President of the Republic Kais Saied decided to grant a special pardon to 1856 detainees. Yet, today, Tunisia is celebrating its 64th anniversary of Independence in very special conditions, no fest or national celebrations were programmed due to the social distancing, avoiding COVID-19 spreading.

However, this independence day is a great chance for us to reflect on our consciousness.
“Freedom is nothing but a chance to be better.”
-Albert Camus-
Our patriotism and national pride should be celebrated through our maturity and altruism toward each other. So Tunisians how about spreading love and helping each other during these hard times? How about sharing joy and happiness?
Be grateful toward your family and friends, cherish these small moments together. Show good manners daily, complement each other and in case of conflict be respectful and try to find values in the other’s point of view.
So wear patriotic colors and celebrate freedom with conscious actions. Be the change you want to see in this country, say no for egoism, say no for personal interest and instead opt for common benefit. Our country needs us now more than ever so be its new spirit and Hope.

So, let’s pray together, may our nation prosper, God may you turn our hearts towards you, may you heal our land and may you remove bitterness! May all Tunisians enjoy this special day of national identity and fellowship and special thanks to all Municipality’s cleaning heroes, policemen and doctors our true Saviors!
